Over the past decade it has become something of a running joke just how long Sony’s Uncharted movie has been in development for and how many directors have been attached. In fact, some might say that at this point it has gone way past being funny to just being sad. Last year, the project actually seemed to have made it farther than ever before with a new director signing up and two Hollywood A-listers officially coming on board to star. The movie was aiming to arrive in theatres this December but alas now they have hit yet another roadblock. Hit the jump for the latest update on the Uncharted movie.
According to Deadline, Travis Knight (Bumblebee, Kubo and the Two Strings) has been forced to drop out as the director of Sony’s Uncharted movie. Scheduling issues are to blame with the next Spider-Man movie preparing to shoot this summer and wreaking havoc on Tom Holland’s availability. The studio is still planning to move forward with Uncharted as soon as possible but they will need to find a new director (their seventh and counting) and the movie is expected to be delayed.
Knight is also attached to direct The Six Billion Dollar Man starring Mark Wahlberg (who remains on board to play Sully in Uncharted). That movie has also been through many years of development hell but it is unclear if that commitment is the reason why he cannot stay the course with Uncharted. At any rate, the good news is we should be guaranteed at least another year of Uncharted news headlines. Do you think the Uncharted movie will ever get made?
