After the success of his smash hit Broadway musical Hamilton, Lin-Manuel Miranda has been making his presence felt in Hollywood over the past few years with appearances in Mary Poppins Returns and His Dark Materials plus original music written for Moana and the upcoming The Little Mermaid remake. Now his first Broadway musical is also coming to the big screen courtesy of Warner Brothers and director Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, Step Up 3D) after being stuck in development hell for a while (Harvey Weinstein was previously attached to produce). In the Heights explores the lives of several characters in Washington Heights, New York City over the course of three days and features a mixture of hip-hop, salsa, merengue and soul music. The movie stars Anthony Ramos, Corey Hawkins, Leslie Grace, Melissa Barrera, Olga Merediz, Daphne Rubin-Vega, Gregory Diaz IV, Stephanie Beatriz, Dascha Polanco and Jimmy Smits and it hits theatres on June 26th.
