Hollywood is continuing to move full steam ahead with the Stephen King revival even if the novelty feels like it is starting to wear off after some of this year’s entries. It: Chapter 2, in particular, was not as well-received as its predecessor and the second season of Castle Rock also seems to be earning some mixed reviews. The list of King adaptations currently in the works includes Salem’s Lot, Firestarter, The Long Walk, The Tommyknockers, The Boogeyman and From a Buick 8 not to mention a series adaptation of The Stand. Now, as of this week, we can also add a new adaptation of The Dark Half to that list, although the good news is they have a pretty interesting filmmaker lined up to direct. Hit the jump for more details.

According to Deadline, Alex Ross Perry will write and direct The Dark Half for MGM, based on Stephen King’s 1989 novel of the same name. The book was written as a response to King’s Richard Bachman pseudonym being revealed and the plot revolves around an author with a dark alter-ego that appears to take on a physical form and starts killing people. George Romero previously adapted the movie in 1993 with Timothy Hutton playing the lead role.

Alex Ross Perry is not really known for horror although some of his movies (Queen of Earth, in particular) fall into the psychological thriller genre. His most recent film, Her Smell, is also dark and tense despite being a portrait of a self-destructive rock star. The subject matter seems fitting and on top of that Perry is supposedly a big Stephen King fan so it will be interesting to see what he comes up with. Are you excited to see a new version of The Dark Half on the big screen?
