Monday Morning Box Office Report: Frozen II Sets the Box Office on Fire

The Disney Industrial Complex kept right on rolling over the weekend as Frozen II soared to a $350 million worldwide debut ($127 million domestic), setting yet another new record. That is the biggest worldwide opening of all time for an animated film and the biggest animated opening ever in the U.S. outside of the summer months. Toy Story 4 and The Lion King both had $245 worldwide debuts earlier this year, although The Lion King is still often left out of comparisons for fully animated films. The rest of the competition was left to fight over scraps with Ford v Ferrari managing to fend off the two other newcomers to stay in second place with $16 million. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood opened in third with $13.5 million, which is essentially on par with predictions, while 21 Bridges opened in fourth with a slightly disappointing $9.3 million. Roland Emmerich’s Midway rounded out the top 5.

1. Frozen II — $127M
