Cats Trailer #2

catstrailer2

It’s nice to know that in an age where the producers of the Sonic the Hedgehog movie redesigned their character halfway through production due to public outcry, some filmmakers choose to stand behind their vision no matter how demented or disturbing it is. Case in point: Tom Hooper’s upcoming adaptation of the musical Cats, which continues to take flak on social media for its odd and uncomfortably sexy human / cat CG hybrid characters. Universal released a new trailer for the movie this week and they are definitely not backing down on that in any way. The movie seems content to embrace its weirdness (which, to be fair, is also true of the musical) and I feel like it could still be a huge success. Prepare yourself for all the glowing reviews coming next month telling us that it’s actually so much better than you think. Cats stars Taylor Swift, Idris Elba, Ian McKellen, Rebel Wilson, Judi Dench, James Corden, Ray Winstone, Francesca Hayward and Jennifer Hudson and it hits theatres on Dec. 20th; check out the new trailer below and see what you think.

Looks absolutely gross. I squirmed through these trailers. Why anyone would think that’s a good look I have no clue.

  • My reaction was about the same as Shelley Duvall’s character was in The Shining bear scene.

I could see this potentially being a hit, bringing in fans of the musical and musicals in general, but I’m not so sure it will be with that December 20 release date. The Greatest Showman had the same date in 2017 when it was also going up against Star Wars. It ended up doing OK but not nearly what the studio was hoping for and it didn’t have the negative buzz going into it like Cats does.

I guess we’ll know for sure soon enough. One thing is for sure already though, and that’s Cat version Judi Dench will haunt me for years to come lol.

Still liking it, and everybody can go #$&^# themselves (well, not really, but you know what I mean :-)).

We want weird! We want strange! We want bold filmmakers that don’t cow down to social media! Bring it on!

    So, bought your ticket, yet?

Gross is a pretty good adjective, but I’m leaning towards appalling.

    Are there tickets available?

The point is not to say I’m a fanboy of Cats. I have ever seen the musical. I only say that I appreciate the weirdness of the trailers and don’t have an issue with them. I have seen stranger things (and by that I don’t mean Stranger Things). I just feel that so much of the stuff that comes out now is so… safe. At least someone’s taking a chance here. It’s not original material, but the presentation is bonkers, and i like it. I guess we’ll see the proof in the pudding when the movie comes out, and I might have to eat my whiskers.
