Will you guys be revisiting AVATAR for its 10th Anniversary in December?

  • bobsponge42

Jay’s quote for the Jojo movie poster: “It’s like if Webster was a little Nazi.”

  • Sean

I am guessing we will wait for Avatar 2 but if it shows up on Disney+ in 4K anything is possible… (although I think it was shot in 2K?)

  • Kenneth Serenyi

Disney seems to have up-resed the Star Wars Prequel trilogy to 4K, which was shot in 2K, maybe even 1080p…

  • Sean

Good point, hopefully they can make it happen!

From what I got from the trailer for Jojo Rabbit this zero star review from Slant seems to be the correct assessment:

“This spectacularly wrongheaded “anti-hate satire” (as per the
how-the-hell-do-we-market-this-thing ad campaign) is the feature-length
equivalent of the “Springtime for Hitler” number from Mel Brooks’s, sans context and self-awareness.”

It is only fitting that this movie has come from a man who has made a marvel movie and is described as Wes Anderson-like, two of the worse things about modern cinema. Someone has to got to get Martin Scorsese to do a think-piece on this thing.

And speaking of think-pieces I have written a book. The book is called Shell Shocked: The Madness of Hero Turtles and it is essentially about how the the imagery and the philosophy that underlies the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is Cronenbergian or Lovecraftian in nature. Paperback and ebook for sale on Amazon. Not in anyway am I endorsed by Film Junk and its affiliates, but I thought since I am a frequent commenter I might be able to slip in a quick plug without incurring significant fallout from my actions. On my word, never again will an advertisement from me besmirch the comment section of an otherwise outstanding website like Film Junk.

Listening to Jay describe that Star Trek episode reminded me that The Dilemma Podcast did an episode on the Prime Directive if that’s of any interest to anyone.

Reed should also watch The Farewell and review it so he can provide an authentic Chinese viewpoint.

  • Beat_C

LOL. he’s never even been to china, right?

During the heated Disney discussion a few shows back, I seem to recall Jay adamantly saying he will not subscribe to Disney Plus, and maybe even other crew members said something similar to that affect… I’m not sure, but there was a sense of agreement about this, so that’s why I was surprised to hear about The Mandalorian. Maybe the proclamations back than were just a joke and I didn’t get it?

I mean, I understand why FJ would want to cover Disney Plus as to not be left behind (since everybody’s covering it).

  • With two kids at home I assumed Sean would be subscribing and Frank as a Disney adorer surely too. Jay on the other hand would be a surprise although there might be other ways for him to watch The Mandalorian outside of Disney+.

  • Lior

I saw on the Patreon comments that Sean said Jay will be away next week, so that explains it.

I wish there was a regular segment where Jay talks about Star Trek TNG. Also, as the trekkie in the group, I would love to hear his take on Discovery and modern Trek in general, but it doesn’t look like that’s happening any time soon.
