After a pair of live-action / CG hybrid Scooby Doo movies in the early 2000s, Mystery Inc. took a long hiatus from the big screen over the next decade and a half although there have been a couple of live-action direct-to-video movies (and, of course, a steady stream of DTV animated features as well). But next year, Scooby Doo is getting his first theatrically released animated feature (I think?) and, in keeping with the times, Warner Brothers decided to go with 3D animation as opposed to 2D. The first trailer largely focuses on the gang as kids, laying out a somewhat controversial origin story (Scooby was named after Scooby Snacks??) but I believe the majority of the movie will have them as teenagers. As you would expect, there is a star-studded voice cast that includes Zac Efron, Amanda Seyfried, Gina Rodriguez and Will Forte as Fred, Daphne, Velma and Shaggy respectively, although veteran voice actor Frank Welker does return as Scooby. Perhaps the most worrisome thing about this movie is that it supposedly sets up a Hanna-Barbera Cinematic Universe, if that is in fact still going to be a thing. Scoob! is directed by Tony Cervone (Scooby-Doo! And Kiss: Rock and Roll Mystery) and it hits theatres on May 15th; check out the first trailer below and let us know what you think.
