New to Theatres This Weekend: Doctor Sleep, Midway, Last Christmas

After the disappointing debut of Terminator: Dark Fate last weekend, it should be no problem for one of this weekend’s newcomers to overtake it at the box office. Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep is probably the biggest new release of the bunch and it is definitely being marketed heavily as a sequel to Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, although whether it can live up to that title remains to be seen. Also in wide release we have Roland Emmerich’s Midway (which is getting pulverized by critics) and the holiday-themed romantic comedy Last Christmas starring Emilia Clarke and Henry Golding (which isn’t faring much better). Two of the best-reviewed movies of the year, Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit and Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite, are also finally expanding nationwide while Noah Baumbach’s Marriage Story and Shia LaBeouf’s semi-autobiographical Honey Boy are debuting in select theatres. What will you be watching this weekend?
