After churning out a handful of SOUL-less sequels (see what I did there?) Pixar is attempting to get their groove back next year with two original movies: Onward and Soul. While the former doesn’t seem all that inspired from what we’ve seen so far, the latter seems to have a bit more potential. Directed by Pete Docter (Up, Inside Out), Soul revolves around a middle school band teacher in New York who hits a midlife crisis and decides to follow his true passion of becoming a jazz musician. The movie looks to explore some deeper questions about art, creativity and personality and also, not unlike Inside Out, it looks to have characters that represent the cartoony personification of a human soul. Featuring the voices of Jamie Foxx, Tina Fey, Phylicia Rashad, Ahmir Questlove Thompson and Daveed Diggs, Soul hits theatres on June 18th, 2020.
