Fun fact for lovers of Game Junk and its subsidiaries: Shinji Mikami is reputed to have found much inspiration for Resident Evil 4 in 2001’s Dagon.

I’ve seen Society twice and am slightly more on Frank’s camp even though I didn’t exactly think the first 2 acts are terrible. I just wish they didn’t blow most of the budget on “the shunting” only.
Related to Start Gordon’s lesser known works,

  • Jonny Ashley

This is incredible, I definitely see it.

  • Ben Bueno

Very excited to hear this! I watched Re-Animator a few months ago and it became an instant favorite. Top 10 horror ever for me. And Society is ok too

  • Johnny

I completely agree with frank when it comes to society. Until the shunting the whole film is a total clusterfuck and I felt like I was watching a third episode of a TV show without having seen the first two. The writing and structure feel very amateurish. The shunting is obviously fantastic, some of the best effects I’ve seen. I think it’s a good thing that they blew all their money on that part, because that’s what makes the film special.
On another note, I’m very excited about the soundboard, a total gamechanger.

  • OsoDuck

Agreed, and this guy from the movie isn’t even in the trailer. “What’re ya buyin?” https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/a0d6d165943a375db2016a7251a7f90931b9d02d2463d66ebea48e8aa15828e4.png

    “Come baack annny tyyyyme!”

  • Isildur_of_Numenor

No jump scares in The Lighthouse that I can remember, so Frank’s safe. It’s actually a very different film from The Witch in most ways. I won’t spoil it but Frank’s going to love the first 10 minutes, guaranteed.

  • LordAwesome

Sean’s new title should be The Princess of Prudes.

    Lovin’ them Halloween SND_FX

  • Tommy

Maybe it’s just cause of Halloween, but over this ep and the premium there’s so much talk about what genres movies fit into. Who cares? Isn’t it good when things smudge those boundaries?

  • Lior

I didn’t get the bit with Michael Rapaport. Is it the real actor?

  • Tommy

    Yup.
    evidence: https://www.instagram.com/p/B4QGhB3lwos/
    He must be on cameo.com

  • Lior

I’m familiar with the actor, but didn’t get the connection to Film Junk. Jay is famous for his impressions but I really can’t tell. Perhaps it’s some FJ lore that I’m missing.

  • Tommy

Sorry. I misread you before editing that.
You can get your own Rapaport message for 150 smackers.

  • Lior

Oh my god, I guess he’s not as busy as he used to be :-) :-)
    Thanks.

  • Grant Radke

Holy Crap! Barbara Crampton is hot! Thanks guys.

  • Jake

oh man, how am I just finding out about this website. Although looking at their list of talent available is a little depressing lol. I was sorta hoping they got him cause Jay had directed him in something.

  • devolutionary

She even had a brief Playboy feature back then (clothed).

  • Beat_C

sound quality was great. and the rest of the show, too, obviously.

Christmas has come early for Frankie.

  • Craig

I thought it was Franco doing one of his characters from The Deuce at first.

  • Craig

This doesn’t come out in the UK til January but I caught a preview on Tuesday. It’s so good and am looking forward to the review next week.

  • Film Gob

So, was one of your friends really hiding in Frank’s house? ????

  • Isildur_of_Numenor

Nice! I went to the only screening in my city. It was one and done, I’m glad I caught it on the big screen. The people in the audience had no idea what they were getting into hehe.

  • Sean

Not that I know of. Unless Jay was playing a really long con. :)

  • gibson8

So you don’t actually agree with Frank since he didn’t say the film was special.

  • gibson8

Delighted with Jay’s Halloween prank on Frank after he (yet again) behaved like a dick when presented with something that he disagreed with. That’s worth the price of Patreon alone.

  • Lior

Don’t know if anyone commented on this (there are now TWO comments threads to sift through :-)), but Dean Koontz books are much better than the movies. His older stuff especially is very good, highlights are Whispers, Intensity, Watchers, Strangers… (yes, he likes one-word titles!)
Most if not all of the movie adaptations for his novels were made for TV. I think the only exception is High Tension which is considered by some (including Koontz) to be an unofficial/unauthorized adaptation of Intensity.

Cherry Falls is a nifty little chiller which also played knowingly on the tropes of the slasher subgenre but in a less overt way than the Scream movies. Also has an amusing double-meaning title… it’s a bit of shame Jay spoiled it on the show in such a nonchalant way… :-) :-) :-)

  • Sean

I had always heard that Watchers (the novel) is good but Watchers (the movie) is terrible.

Just looking at it now, I didn’t realize Demon Seed was based on a Koontz book. Been meaning to watch that movie for a while now.

  • Lior

He was writing science fiction/horror hybrids early in his career under a pen name, I think Demon Seed is one of those. But you’re right, perhaps there are more movie adaptations of his earlier stuff. But he’s most famous for his supernatural, suspense novels.

  • devolutionary

Yeah, I’ve been meaning to watch the film although I hear it was quite divisive. What I didn’t know is that there was a 1997 rewrite of the book with a much more socially progressive angle.

  • Christopher Quack

When Jay asked for a sound effect ,off the new sound board, after his long but well deserved rant and got hit with the rim shot, I lost my shit. I was riding home on the train and couldnt stop laughing. Well done my friends.
