The Grudge Reboot Trailer

It’s been a decade since Hollywood’s infatuation with J-Horror remakes faded away, but several of the most well-known franchises have continued on in Japan… specifically, the Ringu and Ju-On films. Back in 2017, Paramount tried (and failed) to relaunch The Ring franchise in the U.S. with Rings, but now Sony is attempting to bring back The Grudge series for a fresh start as well. Directed by Nicolas Pesce (The Eyes of My Mother, Piercing), the new version of The Grudge reuses the basic imagery and concept while attempting to create a new mythology. With a solid cast that includes John Cho, Andrea Riseborough, Demi├ín Bichir, Betty Gilpin, Lin Shaye, and Jacki Weaver, perhaps this will succeed where Rings failed? The Grudge hits theatres on January 3rd; check out the first trailer below and let us know what you think.

Looks completely indistinguishable from 90% of the other horror releases lately. The Grudge was never good enough in the first place to justify a remake. Veto.
