Just when you thought every superhero in existence had already been given his or her own movie, along comes Sony Pictures to bring the Valiant Universe to the big screen. Originally rising to prominence amidst the ’90s comic book boom, Valiant spawned many successful (albeit still relatively unknown) characters including Harbinger, X-O Manowar, Ninjak and Bloodshot. Now the first Valiant movie is almost upon us and we’ve got Vin Diesel playing the latter, a former soldier who is granted powers of super strength and regeneration as a result of nanites injected into his blood. His story really seems quite similar to Wolverine as he is also out for revenge while attempting to reclaim his mysterious past. The movie is directed by long-time video game cinematic director Dave Wilson (who also directed a short in Netflix’s Love, Death & Robots series) and it co-stars Eiza González, Sam Heughan, Toby Kebbell and Guy Pearce. It seems hard to believe that this will launch a whole new cinematic universe, but I guess we shouldn’t underestimate the drawing power of Vin Diesel? Bloodshot hits theatres on Feb. 21st; check out the first trailer below and let us know what you think.
