Last month we heard that Jonah Hill was in talks to play a villain in the next solo Batman movie, titled simply The Batman. Now almost a month later, we are still waiting to hear if it is actually happening and to get confirmation on what character he would be playing (the general consensus seems to be The Riddler). In the meantime, however, we are hearing that another villain will be joining the film and this one already appears to be a done deal. Catwoman will reportedly be making an appearance, although the full extent of her involvement in the story still remains to be seen. Hit the jump for more details.
According to The Wrap, Zoe Kravitz has signed on to play Selina Kyle aka Catwoman in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. The character was most recently played by Anne Hathaway in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises although, perhaps not coincidentally, Kravitz did voice the character in 2017’s The Lego Batman Movie. Variety is reporting that Zazie Beetz, Eiza Gonzalez (Baby Driver) and Alicia Vikander were up for the role, but Kravitz ultimately won out.
Kravitz is probably best known for playing Leta Lestrange in the Fantastic Beasts movies (scheduling issues with that series was reportedly a concern for Warner Brothers) and Christina in The Divergent Series but she has also appeared in X-Men: First Class, Mad Max: Fury Road, Rough Night and HBO’s Big Little Lies. She will next appear in Hulu’s High Fidelity TV series. What do you think of this latest casting choice for The Batman?
