Although fans were excited to see the long-awaited debut of the Breaking Bad movie El Camino on Netflix this past weekend, it was also accompanied by some unfortunate news about the loss of one of its cast members. The great Robert Forster reportedly passed away on Friday at his home in Los Angeles after a battle with brain cancer. El Camino will be his final on-screen performance aside from an appearance in an episode of the upcoming Amazing Stories reboot. Aside from his role in Breaking Bad, he was best known for playing bail bondsman Max Cherry in Quentin Tarantino’s Jackie Brown as well as for his performances in Haskell Wexler’s 1969 counterculture film Medium Cool and Disney’s The Black Hole. He was 78 years old.

Robert Forster got his start in the late ’60s with supporting roles in John Huston’s Reflections in a Golden Eye and Robert Mulligan’s The Stalking Moon. These led to him landing the lead role in Medium Cool and also the 1972 TV series Banyon. From there he went on to appear in quite a few b-movies and genre flicks including Alligator, The Delta Force and Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence. In 1997, Quentin Tarantino pulled him back out of relative obscurity and revitalized his career with Jackie Brown which earned Forster an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor.

From there, Forster went on to work with David Lynch in Mulholland Drive as well as Twin Peaks: The Return and had roles in movies like Lucky Number Slevin, Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle and Alexander Payne’s The Descendants not to mention Gus Van Sant’s Psycho remake. He had a recurring role on the NBC series Heroes and more recently appeared in both Olympus Has Fallen and London Has Fallen. He was an actor that you always enjoyed seeing show up on screen and he will most definitely be missed. What are your favourite Robert Forster performances?
