Monday Morning Box Office Report: Joker’s Still Wild, The Addams Family Takes Down Gemini Man

It was another strong weekend for Todd Phillips’ Joker as the controversial comic book movie dropped just 43% to earn another $55 million at the box office. The movie is already the eighth highest grossing movie of the year domestically with $192 million and it has earned $543 million worldwide. In second place, The Addams Family outperformed Gemini Man with a solid $30.3 million debut. That’s a bit less than the Hotel Transylvania movies made in their first weekend (all of them made over $40 million) but it should continue to make decent money from family audiences throughout October. Ang Lee’s Gemini Man opened in third place with a disappointing $20.5 million, which is not great news for Paramount considering that the movie had a budget of $138 million. It may make up some of that overseas, although so far it has only made $39 million internationally. Abominable fell to fourth place while Downton Abbey rounded out the top 5. The weekend’s other new release, Jexi, opened way down in ninth place with just $3.1 million. Meanwhile Bong Joon-Ho’s Parasite had a fantastic weekend in limited release, earning $376,264 from just three locations and giving it the biggest per-theatre average of the year so far.
