Henry James’ The Turn of the Screw has been adapted for the screen multiple times over the past century, most notably as Jack Clayton’s 1961 classic The Innocents. Netflix and Mike Flanagan’s upcoming follow-up to The Haunting of Hill House series will also be based on this gothic novella, but before that DreamWorks and Amblin are releasing a new feature film version called simply The Turning. Mackenzie Davis plays a woman hired to look after two disturbed orphans at a mysterious estate in Maine where not all is as it seems. Finn Wolfhard (Stranger Things) and Brooklynn Prince (The Florida Project) play the creepy kids. Veteran music video director Floria Sigismondi is at the helm, so at the very least the movie should deliver some unique imagery within an otherwise familiar setting. The Turning hits theatres on Jan. 24th; check out the trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.
