Monday Morning Box Office Report: Joker Breaks October Box Office Record

It was serious business for Warner Brothers at the box office over the weekend as Joker rode controversy and curiosity to a $93 million opening weekend. That is the biggest debut ever in the month of October, beating the previous record held by Venom by approximately $13 million. It is also the fourth largest start for an R-rated movie, but perhaps even crazier is the fact that it is almost equivalent to what Justice League made on its opening weekend back in 2017. Joker also added $140 million internationally. In second place, Abominable dropped 42% to take $12 million in its second weekend while Downton Abbey added another $8 million. Hustlers and It Chapter Two rounded out the top 5. Judy remained in seventh place after a significant expansion but the biggest surprise in the top 10 was the Indian action-thriller War, which opened with $1.6 million from just over 300 theatres.

1. Joker — $93.5M
2. Abominable — $12M
3. Downton Abbey — $8M
4. Hustlers — $6.3M
5. It Chapter Two — $5.4M
6. Ad Astra — $4.6M
7. Judy — $4.4M
8. Rambo: Last Blood — $3.6M
9. War — $1.6M
10. Good Boys — $0.9M

Might have a huge fall-off or have a good next week. Very divisive..a lit of chatter from people hated it, loved it, it was flat down depressing. Im gonna see it in a couple days. My friend who loves De Niro in Taxi Driver and King of Comedy really didnt care for it much.hmm..we’ll see what I think. Maybe that’s why its pulling in dollars.
