New to Theatres This Weekend: Joker, Lucy in the Sky, Pain and Glory

All hell breaks loose at the box office this weekend as Todd Phillips’ Joker hits theatres with most predictions pointing to a $90+ million debut. The controversy surrounding the film only seems to be increasing its potential upside although there is some talk of increased security in some places due to possible threats. At any rate, there isn’t much competition this weekend either, although Judy starring Renee Zellweger is expanding to over 1400 theatres. In limited release, we have Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds, Noah Hawley’s astronaut drama starring Natalie Portman, and Pedro Almodóvar’s acclaimed autobiographical film Pain and Glory. If you’re looking for something completely different, there is also Wrinkles the Clown, a documentary about a Florida clown that can be hired by parents to scare the crap out of their misbehaving children. What will you be watching this weekend?
