HBO’s His Dark Materials Trailer

hisdarkmaterials

After failing to launch a movie franchise with The Golden Compass back in 2007, Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy is getting a second shot on the small screen courtesy of HBO and the BBC. The fantasy series is set in a world where humans have animal companions called daemons and the story follows a young girl who gets pulled into a plot involving child abductions and a mysterious substance called Dust. (There are also armoured polar bears.) The Golden Compass movie was definitely aimed at a young adult audience while the show seems a little bit darker; that being said, it is still unclear if this has what it takes to become the next Game of Thrones. The show’s directors include Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech) and Otto Bathurst (Robin Hood) and it stars Dafne Keen, James McAvoy, Ruth Wilson and Lin-Manuel Miranda. His Dark Materials premieres on HBO on Nov. 4th; check out the first full trailer below and see what you think.

Please don’t screw it up. Please don’t screw it up.

No interest in this really, but the review of the 2007 film is still one of my favourite FJ episodes. “Compiss” never gets old.

I read the first book, and was really liking it, and then the ending. Like, literally the last five pages made me so mad I never continued the series.

The person I’ve been searching for the entire book dies? Meh, time to move on with a shrug of the shoulders.
