Clint Eastwood continues his exploration of everyday American heroes with his latest film, Richard Jewell, about the security guard who helped save lives during the 1996 Atlanta Olympic bombing. Jewell later became a suspect in the bombing, however, ruining his life and his reputation. The movie stars Paul Walter Hauser in the lead role with a supporting cast that includes Sam Rockwell as his lawyer Watson Bryant and Kathy Bates as his mother Bobi. Olivia Wilde and Jon Hamm also co-star. Paul Greengrass was once attached to direct the movie with Jonah Hill and Leonardo DiCaprio headlining, but that version of the project fell apart. Having a relative unknown play Jewell does seem like a more appropriate choice in this case. As with most of Clint Eastwood’s movies these days, it is being given an awards-friendly December release date although it is anyone’s guess if this will actually be in contention next year. Richard Jewell hits theatres on Dec. 13th; check out the trailer below and let us know what you think.
