Kevin Smith Announces Clerks 3 is Back on Again

With just a couple of weeks to go before his next movie, Jay & Silent Bob Reboot, hits theatres, Kevin Smith has just given fans of the so-called Askewniverse another reason to get excited. It’s no secret that he has been trying for years to get a third Clerks film off the ground, but up until now Jeff Anderson (aka Randal Graves) has been the lone holdout on the project. A script was written and funding secured, but without Anderson’s involvement, Smith was forced to abandon it at the time. Now this week, however, he took to Instagram to announce that Anderson is back on board and the movie appears to be happening for real this time:

3 CLERKS! Thanks to the good folks at @zscentertainment and @leeloomultiprops, I got to see Randal! #JeffAnderson, @jaymewes, and I spent Saturday signing stuff and catching up, seeing so much movie merch that’s been made over the last 25 years (hit the Leloo site for sweet signed skateboards)! But even better than that? We talked about making a movie together. It’ll be a movie that concludes a saga. It’ll be a movie about how you’re never too old to completely change your life. It’ll be a movie about how a decades-spanning friendship finally confronts the future. It’ll be a movie that brings us back to the beginning – a return to the cradle of civilization in the great state of #newjersey. It’ll be a movie that stars Jeff and @briancohalloran, with me and Jay in supporting roles. And it’ll be a movie called CLERKS III! To be great is to go on. To go on is to go far. To go far is to return. And we’re all gonna return to the scene of the crime! This won’t be the old script we almost made a few years back: this is a completely new screenplay that I just started writing last night! And so far, it’s like a dream come true! After mending fences with @benaffleck earlier this year, I was hoping for a chance to do the same with Jeff – so huge thanks to Leeloo Multiprops for getting us all in the same room. But the biggest thanks ever go to Jeff, for being receptive to the idea at all. This means I’m gonna get to play with my two favorite inaction figures again: Dante & Randal! Two weeks from the debut of @jayandsilentbob Reboot (on @fathomevents screens 10/15 & 10/17, link in my bio), I’m ecstatic to announce our imminent return to Quick Stop! So I assure you: we’re open! #KevinSmith #clerks3 #jaymewes #jayandsilentbob #danteandrandal #quickstop #leeloomultiprops #indiefilm #clerks

It is unclear what drove Anderson and Smith apart in the first place, but it is heartening to hear that they have made amends and are now on the same page. Smith is apparently writing a brand new script from scratch, which may indicate that Anderson had concerns with the original draft. Either way, the good news is that it feels like it is coming from the heart as opposed to a commercial need to rely on past successes. Are you looking forward to Clerks III?

Kind of funny that the Clerks sequels only seem to happen after Smith completes his plan B. I’m pretty sure that Jay and Silent Strike Back was suppose to be Clerks 2, but fell apart. And then Clerks 3 fell apart which led to Jay and Silent Bob Reboot. Hopefully this works out and it would be nice to see it get a wider release than his recent output. I think the last Smith movie I was actually able to see in a theater was Cop Out. ugh…

  • Will probably stream exclusively on Mooby’s+

I didn’t realize this wasn’t about Jay and Silent Bob 2 at first. That’s fun. If he keeps making these things I’ll keep watching them.

So Filmjunk has been posting a lot of interesting articles lately… and this is the one that people (so called film junkies) react to? Unbelievable I think it’s time the Film Junk crew wrap things up, cause this is becoming really stupid!

Everything I’ve seen of the new J&SB film just looks….very forced and odd. They haven’t released a single scene that seemed funny to me, which is kind of shocking. I hate to say this, but Jason Mewes has really aged out of that role – and thin Kevin Smith, while I applaud him getting healthier, just doesn’t work for Silent Bob. As much as I love the original J&SB film, I have a feeling this is going to be pretty bad.

So I was flipping through the latest issue of my dad’s Men Journal and there was an interview with Smith. In it he said if podcasting was around back in the day he wouldn’t have even gotten into making movies because he loves the podcast medium so much. Feel like this is not the thing to say while promoting a movie, idk. He also said he watched Endgame like 81 times or something.

I want to let the world know about Doctor Padman the Great spell caster that brought back my husband to me when i thought all hope was lost, I got my love back and saved my marriage… I was married for 3years with 1kid and we lived happily until things started getting ugly and we had fights and argued almost every time… it got worse at a point that he filed for divorce… I tried my best to make him change his mind & stay with me because I love him so much and don’t want to lose him but everything just didn’t work out… he moved out of the house because it was a rented apartment and still went ahead to file for divorce… I pleaded and tried everything but still nothing worked. The breakthrough came when someone introduced me to this wonderful, great spell caster who eventually helped me out… I have never been a fan of things like this but just decided to try reluctantly because I was desperate and left with no choice… He did special prayers and used his power… Within 4 days my husband called me and he said he was sorry for all the emotional pains he had cost me, moved back to the house and we continue to live happily and our son is happy too and we are expecting our second child… (padmanlovespell@yahoo.com) I have introduced him to a lot of couples with problems across the world and they have had good news… Just thought I should share my experience because I strongly believe someone out there need’s it… You can email him through his email.padmanlovespell@yahoo.com
