Monday Morning Box Office Report: Abominable Emerges to Claim Top Spot

Although there wasn’t much in the way of competition over the weekend, the latest DreamWorks animated film Abominable managed to climb to the top of the heap with a decent $20.9 million debut. Believe it or not, that is the biggest opening for an original animated film in 2019, although if we’re being honest there were probably only a couple of other movies in that category (Missing Link, Wonder Park). Downton Abbey fell to second place but took in another $14.5 million while Hustlers had another strong weekend, jumping back up to #3 and adding $11.47 million in its third weekend of release. It: Chapter Two remained in fourth while Ad Astra rounded out the top 5. Elsewhere, Judy had a very impressive start, opening in seventh with $3.1 million from just 461 theaters. It will continue to expand in the near future.
