Jonah Hill in Talks to Play The Batman Villain, Jeffrey Wright in Talks for Commissioner Gordon

With one week before Joker hits theatres, we are starting to get some big casting announcements for DC’s next Batman movie, simply titled The Batman. With the early reaction to Joker being so strong, you have to wonder if this is partially to stop fans from asking Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker to be included in the movie. Especially considering that one of the announcements is related to the film’s villain in particular, although we still don’t have a full confirmation of who that villain might be. The actor playing the unknown villain, however, is an unexpected one: Jonah Hill. Jeffrey Wright has also reportedly joined the cast in a significant role. Hit the jump to find out what we know.

According to Deadline, Jeffrey Wright (Westworld) is in early talks to play Commissioner Gordon in Matt Reeves’ The Batman. J.K. Simmons last portrayed the Gotham police commissioner on the big screen in Justice League, while Gary Oldman played the role in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight trilogy. It will mark the first time that the character has been seen as African-American either on screen or in comics as far as I know. Robert Pattinson is attached to play Batman / Bruce Wayne.

Deadline also reported that Jonah Hill is in talks to play the main villain in The Batman with Collider claiming that he will be playing none other than The Riddler. Some of the initial rumours had claimed he would be playing The Penguin, but supposedly there are multiple villains in the script and The Riddler has the biggest part. Either way, it would be an interesting step for Hill, who has been gravitating towards more dramatic work in the past few years with Oscar nominations for The Wolf of Wall Street and Moneyball. Do you think he could make a decent Batman villain?
