Monday Morning Box Office Report: It Chapter Two Holds Off Hustlers

Following up on last weekend’s solid $91 million opening, It Chapter Two dropped 55% in its second weekend to top the box office for the second week in a row with $40.7 million. The horror sequel has now earned $323 million worldwide and although it is trailing behind the first film, the two movies together have now crossed $1 billion combined. In second place, Hustlers had a very strong debut with $33.2 million, the biggest opening in STXfilm’s four-year history. Angel Has Fallen fell to third followed by Good Boys and The Lion King. Elsewhere, The Goldfinch was a huge bomb for Warner Brothers, making just $2.6 million despite playing in over 2500 theatres. That is one of the worst openings ever for a wide release of this size and the largely negative reviews coming out of TIFF probably did not do the movie any favours.
