If you’re at all aware of Tim Heidecker and Gregg Turkington’s faux-movie review show On Cinema at the Cinema, you’ll know that it has given birth to a long and complicated fictional storyline that takes place partially outside of the show. A couple of years ago, there was an entire season dedicated to Heidecker being put on trial for selling faulty e-cigarettes at a music festival that resulted in the death of 20 people. After beating the charge, he decided to run for District Attorney in San Bernardino County in real life (sort of?) and now that whole process has been documented in Mister America, the first feature film spawned from the On Cinema universe. Obviously this is poking fun at political documentaries and politics in general, although whether the joke will play with general audiences remains to be seen. That being said, I’m sure Heidecker and Turkington would be just as delighted if it didn’t. Mister America hits select theatres on Oct. 9th; check out the trailer below and see what you think.
