With The Matrix celebrating its 20th anniversary this year and Keanu Reeves currently experiencing an unexpected career resurgence, Warner Brothers has officially managed to finalize a deal for a fourth Matrix movie. We have been hearing rumours about a reboot for years, but surprisingly the new movie will bring back Lana Wachowski to direct with Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss attached to reprise their roles as Neo and Trinity respectively. Plot details are still under wraps and it is unclear if this will be a direct sequel to The Matrix Revolutions. Wachowski had this to say about the announcement:
“Many of the ideas Lilly and I explored 20 years ago about our reality are even more relevant now. I’m very happy to have these characters back in my life and grateful for another chance to work with my brilliant friends.”
The script is being co-written by Aleksandar Hemon and David Mitchell (Sense8) and they are reportedly looking to start production in early 2020. Whether Morpheus will appear in the movie remains to be seen but Laurence Fishburne does not seem to be involved. There is talk that perhaps a younger version of the character may appear instead. Are you looking forward to re-entering The Matrix?
