New to Theatres This Weekend: Good Boys, Where’d You Go, Bernadette, 47 Meters Down: Uncaged

Once again we have a handful of wide releases hitting theatres this weekend, all of them essentially competing for late summer table scraps while Hobbs & Shaw tries to maintain its grip on the box office. The animated sequel The Angry Birds Movie 2 seems like the biggest of the bunch although the R-rated comedy Good Boys might have the potential to surprise. Other major releases include Richard Linklater’s Where’d You Go, Bernadette, the Bruce Springsteen-themed musical Blinded by the Light and the shark thriller 47 Meters Down: Uncaged. In limited release, there are some interesting non-fiction alternatives that may be worth considering: Mads Brugger’s conspiracy film Cold Case Hammarskjöld (which is also on VOD), a ZZ Top documentary and the experiential environmental doc Aquarela. What will you be watching this weekend?
