Louisa May Alcott’s 1868 novel Little Women has been adapted many times over the past 150 years (including a movie that was released less than a year ago), but now Lady Bird director Greta Gerwig is the latest writer-director to offer her take on this classic American tale. This is apparently the eighth film based on the book and it features a star-studded cast that includes Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, Timothée Chalamet, Laura Dern, Meryl Streep, Bob Odenkirk, Chris Cooper and Abby Quinn. The movie retains the period setting in 1860s New England but is said to focus a little more on the young adult lives of the March sisters. Either way, Sony is clearly hoping this will make for a big family crowdpleaser this coming holiday season. Little Women hits theatres on Christmas Day; check out the first trailer below and see what you think.
