New to Theatres This Weekend: Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, The Kitchen, Dora and the Lost City of Gold

As we move toward the cinematic wastelands of late August, we’ve got a flood of low key new releases hitting theatres this week while The Lion King and Hobbs & Shaw are expected to continue to battle it out for the top spot at the box office. Nickelodeon show Dora the Explorer gets a live-action adaptation with Dora and the Lost City of Gold while a series of notoriously creepy children’s books also get an adaptation in the Guillermo del Toro-produced horror flick Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark. Other movies in wide release include the female gangster flick The Kitchen, racing-themed narrated-by-dog drama (!) The Art of Racing in the Rain, and Brian Banks, based on the true story of the wrongly convicted high school football star. In select theatres, we also have The Peanut Butter Falcon starring Shia LaBeouf and After the Wedding starring Michelle Williams. What will you be watching this weekend?
