Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman Trailer

Following up on the recent news that Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman will premiere at the New York Film Festival next month, Netflix has finally dropped the first full trailer as well. The movie finds Scorsese returning to the gangster genre and reteaming with Robert DeNiro and Joe Pesci while also bringing Al Pacino into the mix as well. The movie spans multiple decades and is described as “an epic saga of organized crime in post-war America”, covering, among other things, the disappearance of union boss Jimmy Hoffa. Due to the shifting time periods, however, it also relies on ambitious de-aging technology which has caused some concern and increased the budget significantly. The Irishman arrives on Netflix sometime later this year; check out the first trailer below and let us know what you think.

i assume the final trailer shot was to show the success of the much discussed de ageing cgi, looked pretty well done i think.

  • And when you look into the Uncanny Valley, the Uncanny Valley shall look right back at you.

I think the trailer looks great with the usual Scorsese flourishes. I didn’t notice any de-aging at all until people started complaining. Still I think it’s very subtle and well done, at least from the trailer.

I should be fizzing at the bunghole with excitement as this ticks all my boxes but for some reason I’m not…was trying to put my finger on what was pissing on my parade and I put it down to one thing – it’s Netflix. I realise that that says more about me than it does the movie. I’m just old school so have a mental block around expecting great things from a film that goes straight to my TV.
