New to Theatres This Weekend: Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, Honeyland, Skin

Disney’s The Lion King should continue to rule over the box office this weekend, but for some of us there is a lot of excitement surrounding the one new movie in wide release: Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. It is one of the few summer “blockbusters” this year not based on a pre-existing property and it could potentially challenge Inglourious Basterds as Tarantino’s biggest opening ever. That being said, it will still be a drop in the bucket compared to the kind of money Disney is raking in these days. In limited release, the acclaimed documentary Honeyland is opening on a couple of screens and A24 will release Guy Nattiv’s crime drama Skin starring Jamie Bell. What will you be watching this weekend?

I hit the pub for a Friday drink and a regular I’ve chatted with a few times told me they walked out on Once Upon A Time In Hollywood because it was excruciating to sit through. After 2 hours they couldn’t take any more lingering shots on by-gone brand name products.

Along with Deathproof, least entertaining Tarantino movie.

Tarantino’s worst. His first truly bad movie, I’d take Death Proof over this any day of the week

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood was an easy 6/5 for me. Loved the whole damn thing. Felt much closer to Jackie Brown than his last 3 movies. The ending was the perfect balance of tension. Brad Pitt makes this entire film hilarious, his best comedic performance since Burn after Reading.

It’s an odd one for sure. The performances were great but some definite clunkiness along the looong way. I liked it more than most it seems like but I can’t see how you could possibly say its one QT’s best. Those that are, are outing themselves I think.

Hi Gerry, What the fuck is taking Frank so long? Did he embarrass himself again?
