Coinciding with the announcement of the first batch of films from the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival, here is the first teaser trailer for one of TIFF’s world premieres: Taika Waititi’s upcoming film Jojo Rabbit. With a cast that includes Scarlett Johansson, Thomasin McKenzie, Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant, Alfie Allen, Sam Rockwell and Waititi himself, the movie takes place at a Hitler Youth camp during WWII where a bullied German boy takes solace in an imaginary friend that happens to be a goofy version of Adolf Hitler. It feels somewhat akin to his previous films Boy and Hunt for the Wilderpeople, although it is also dealing with much more delicate subject matter (the first poster and trailer try to make it very clear that this is a satire). That being said, if anyone can pull a movie like this off it is Taika Waititi. Jojo Rabbit is based on the Christine Leunens book Caging Skies and it hits theatres on Oct. 18th; check out the trailer below and see what you think.
