With Comic-Con kicking off in San Diego later this week, you can bet there will be at least a few announcements about upcoming Marvel movies to look forward to. Fortunately, we’ve got one big announcement to discuss right now and it is the confirmation of a fourth Thor solo movie with Taika Waititi reportedly returning to the director’s chair. If you were looking forward to his live-action Akira movie, however, we are hearing that the movie has been delayed indefinitely. Hit the jump for more info.
According to THR, Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi has finalized a deal to write and direct Thor 4 for Marvel. Although Chris Hemsworth’s contract ended with Avengers: Endgame, he had indicated that he would be happy to return given the right script. Clearly he and Waititi hit it off working on Ragnarok and he has been delighted to take the character in a more comedic direction.
At the moment it is unclear where this movie will fall within Marvel’s upcoming slate but a Phase 4 schedule is likely to be unveiled at Comic-Con. It will also be interesting to see if Hemsworth might appear in Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 3 given how Endgame concluded. Either way, Marvel fans will no doubt be thrilled to have at least one of the major Avengers carry over into the next batch of movies. Are you looking forward to Thor 4?
