Although Kingsman: The Golden Circle was not as well-received critically as the first Kingsman film, it made almost the same amount of money and encouraged Universal to greenlight not just another sequel but also a prequel. We now know that the prequel will be called The King’s Man and it will apparently hit theatres first. Set in the early 1900s, this movie tells the story of how the spy organization was initially formed, apparently reimagining WWI as a major conspiracy cooked up by “history’s worst tyrants and criminal masterminds.” Taron Egerton and Colin Firth are not involved in this one but Matthew Vaughn is still in the director’s chair and the general filmmaking style seems to be the same. With a cast that includes Ralph Fiennes, Gemma Arterton, Rhys Ifans, Matthew Goode, Tom Hollander, Harris Dickinson, Daniel Brühl, Djimon Hounsou and Charles Dance, The King’s Man is scheduled to hit theatres in February 2020.
