I’m just saying that after all the pressure to do something new with the character, if they just throw in a black female spy that is called 007 but is not actually the new face of the franchise, that feels a bit weak to me. If she is actually the new star of the show moving forward then I’ll be impressed. But I agree with a lot of the other comments here that they are in a tough position. You can only change so much before it’s not Bond anymore and I don’t know what the solution is.

Seriously, my eyes are already tired from rolling. Instead of gender swapping established archetypal male figures in film why not create more dynamic original female roles? It comes off to me as either unoriginal or as a snub against male identity. Female protagonists are awesome when done right like Sigourney Weaver in Aliens or Jodie Foster in Silence of the Lambs but this is ridiculous. I apologize if I triggered people, but that’s my opinion and I’m sticking to it.

Even if it happens, most likely it will be a one off. However, X Men series did pretty good with the switch to period stuff, and First Class was kind of Bondish…

I want a Bond movie taking place in the 60s. MAN FROM UNCLE was fun and I’m sure with a bigger Budget there can be an awesome Bond-Movie. No cellphones and dudes in front of monitors… but… I musht be dreaming… this will never happen I’m afraid.

The Bond franchise is perhaps the trickiest to keep juggling in this new politically correct, gender-awareness world. I love Bond, but he’s a relic of a bygone era. We’ll always have the old movies to enjoy.

Bond is essentially the last bastion of traditional masculinity left in pop culture. When Craig started playing the role in 2005, his Bond was tough but already more vulnerable (and I love Casino Royale). But the Craig films show a more personal Bond, less of a “jobber”. I think Skyfall was the first time we actually saw his apartment? We are getting more intimate with the character.
Where can it go from here? We can’t go back. But going forward too much will change the DNA of the character to the degree where it’s no longer the character.
It remains to be seen, I guess.

Don’t get all the hoopla around this. It’s basically meaningless if she is 007 or 004 or 008, she simply is another 00-agent (sort of reminiscent of Naomie Harris in Skyfall) that takes over Bond’s moniker once he retired. It’s not like the MI6 is a NBA franchise that retires agent code names once they drop out. There were 007’s before Bond and there will be ones after him. Most likely Lynch will die during this film (or gets reassigned to cook coffee like Harris at the end of Skyfall).

Despite not liking Spectre I do appreciate Waltz reprising his Blofeld. This might be a Silence of the Lambs scenario, where he helps Bond to take down Malek only to use this as a scheme to escape. If they pitch him against Lynch’s 007 it would even increase the analogy (with Craig as a Graham stand-in who captured him only for a younger female agent to get bamboozled).
