Anima Teaser: P.T. Anderson and Thom Yorke Team Up for Netflix Musical Short

ANIMA

Netflix continues to surprise with some of the top level talent they have been able to recruit to create original content and this week they have announced that Paul Thomas Anderson will release a “mindbending” short film exclusively on their service. The so-called one-reeler is titled Anima and it features music by Radiohead’s Thom Yorke. It is unclear if it will contain any sort of narrative, but it certainly seems like an experimental art piece which is kind of a first for Netflix as far as I know. Either way, this looks to be pure catnip for cinephiles. Anima arrives on Netflix on June 27th and screens in select IMAX theatres the night before; check out the teaser after the jump and let us know what you think.

I’m in for anything PTA. I’ve enjoyed all his music videos. The ones he did with HAIM a couple of years ago were fantastic.

The one thing on his filmography I’ve been interested in lately is something called Junun from 2015. Apparently this is an hour documentary with Jonny Greenwood traveling around India and performing. Looks to be available on iTunes. Anyone seen this before?

Yeah. I remember it basically showing Shye Ben Tzur, Jonny Greenwood, and the other musicians playing their instruments, making this album, Junun, which you can listen to. I wouldn’t say it’s a “PTA” film. I remember it being a good music documentary that I’d probably never return to.
