New to Theatres This Weekend: Dark Phoenix, The Secret Life of Pets 2, Late Night

Things could get ugly this weekend at the box office with two new releases hitting theatres and facing an uphill battle against some tough competition. Fox’s final X-Men movie, Dark Phoenix, seems like it should have been an easy win but it has been getting slammed with negative reviews and poor word of mouth and could be heading for the lowest opening weekend of the franchise. Also tracking far behind its predecessor is the animated sequel, The Secret Life of Pets 2, which still has Aladdin to contend with when it comes to family audiences. Other new movies in limited release include the well-received Mindy Kaling comedy Late Night, Ron Howard’s Luciano Pavarotti documentary Pavarotti and A24’s The Last Black Man in San Francisco. What will you be watching this weekend?

I liked Dark Phoenix. Glad it wasn’t vetoed.
Does it look like Jay’ll be back to review it?
