Despite some questionable marketing and lacklustre reviews, Guy Ritchie’s Aladdin still managed conjure up box office riches with an amazing $86 million debut. It took the #1 spot over the Memorial Day Weekend and is expect to hit $100 million over four days with an additional $100+ million overseas as well. That is good news for Disney after their last live-action remake, Tim Burton’s Dumbo, failed to impress. In second place, John Wick: Chapter 3 — Parabellum added another $24 million, passing Chapter 2 to become the highest-grossing entry in the series. Avengers: Endgame fell to third and is now trailing Avatar by $111 million globally, while Detective Pikachu dropped to fourth. Rounding out the top 5, BrightBurn came in slightly below expectations with $7.5 million. The weekend’s other major release, Booksmart, also failed to break out, ending up at #6 with an adequate $6.5 million.
