We’ve been waiting almost five years to see Jennifer Kent’s follow-up to her breakout horror hit The Babadook, but the good news is her next movie is almost upon us. The Nightingale premiered at the Venice Film Festival last year where it was fairly well-received despite being singled out as a gruelling experience. The movie takes place during the colonization of Australia in 1825 and stars Aisling Franciosi as a 21-year-old Irish convict seeking revenge for crimes committed against her with the help of a tracker. The first trailer establishes a grim tone without revealing much in terms of plot. The Nightingale hits select theatres on Aug. 2nd with a nationwide expansion soon to follow; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
