Tuesday Morning Box Office Report: John Wick Puts a Hit on Avengers: Endgame

With Avengers: Endgame finally starting to slow down, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum was able to walk right in and steal the top spot at the box office over the weekend. The movie earned a stellar $57 million, which is almost double what John Wick: Chapter 2 earned back in February 2017. It seems likely that there will be more John Wick chapters or spin-offs still to come. In second place, Avengers: Endgame added another $29.4 million domestically, passing Avatar to become the second highest grossing movie domestically. It is not likely to catch the #1 movie (Star Wars: The Force Awakens) and it is still trailing Avatar globally as well. Considering the competition in the coming months, it might be tough for Endgame to make up the $170 million difference to pass Avatar’s all-time worldwide record. In third place, Detective Pikachu continues to excel, adding $24.8 million and reaching $290 million worldwide. A Dog’s Journey opened in fourth with a disappointing $8 million (less than half of A Dog’s Purpose) while The Hustle rounded out the top 5. Meanwhile The Sun Is Also a Star became the latest YA film to struggle, debuting with just $2.6 million.
