New to Theatres This Weekend: John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum, A Dog’s Journey, The Souvenir

All eyes will be on Avengers: Endgame this weekend as it nips at the heels of the all-time box office record currently held by James Cameron’s Avatar and quite possibly overtakes it. However, there is a good chance that the movie will finally fall to second place at the box office with John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum expected to deliver the biggest opening yet for the action franchise. Other movies in wide release include the family film A Dog’s Journey and teen romance The Sun is Also a Star. In select theatres, there are some decent alternatives including Sundance award-winner The Souvenir, Edward Zwick’s legal drama Trial by Fire and Swedish sci-fi film Aniari plus a Simon Pegg / Nick Frost-produced horror-comedy that was already out in the U.K. last year, Slaughterhouse Rulez. What will you be watching this weekend?

Just back from a matinee screening for JW3: Parabellum. Theater was about 1/3 full of (surprisingly) older adults – maybe 50s +.

I am completely amazed that there could be such grotesque violence on-screen, yet I was laughing my ass off. The whole cast deserves praise for the physicality of it all. Well-worth my admission.
