Crawl Trailer: Alexandre Aja and Sam Raimi’s Killer Alligator Flick

Between The Shallows, 47 Meters Down and The Meg, the past few summers have seen a resurgence of the killer shark movie. And although there is a 47 Meters Down sequel scheduled to hit theatres this summer, it looks like it may actually get shown up by something similar yet slightly different: a killer gator movie! Director Alexandre Aja is teaming up with producer Sam Raimi for a movie that looks a little bit like Piranha 3D meets Don’t Breathe. Granted, it’s not as intentionally campy as Piranha, but the premise is a little bit ridiculous. Set against the backdrop of a Category 5 hurricane, the story revolves around a young woman (Kaya Scodelario) who tries to help her father (Barry Pepper) escape his flooded home only to find themselves hunted by “Florida’s most savage and feared predator.” Crawl hits theatres on July 12th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

I’m actually looking forward to this. But why is it called ‘Crawl’?
