Here’s the latest trailer for the upcoming Child’s Play reboot, which we now know will feature Mark Hamill as the voice of Chucky. Although we only get a brief preview of his performance towards the end of the trailer, we do get a better sense of what this new, modernized version of Chucky is capable of. It is a wifi-enabled toy called “Buddi” (a nod, I assume, to the My Buddy doll that the original Chucky was based on) and he apparently can take control of every device in your smart home. I’m not sure exactly how that makes sense but smart homes seem to be a popular up-and-coming subject for horror (case in point: Netflix’s Tau and Alexandre Aja’s upcoming film Smart House). Whether this will stray too far from the expected premise remains to be seen, but at least it gives director Lars Klevberg (Polaroid) a slightly new angle to work with. Child’s Play stars Aubrey Plaza, Brian Tyree Henry and Gabriel Bateman and it hits theatres on June 21st (where it will ironically go up against Toy Story 4).
