Joker Trailer Starring Joaquin Phoenix

joker

Despite the lack of consistency across the so-called DC Extended Universe, Warner Brothers is spearheading an interesting new approach with their comic book properties moving forward. Joker is the one of their new standalone films and it stars Joaquin Phoenix in an origin story for the iconic Batman villain that is supposedly unconnected to any other movies or characters. Directed by Todd Phillips (The Hangover), this feels more like a dark character study than a comic book movie and it very clearly seems to be drawing from Martin Scorsese’s Taxi Driver and The King of Comedy, both of which were referenced when the project was first announced. It is interesting that after so many incarnations, it looks like we have yet another creepy and compelling portrayal of the Joker to look forward to on screen. Joker hits theatres on Oct. 3rd; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.

This looks just fantastic. Not just Joaquin but also the cinematography and direction. Im superhyped right now because this film could be a major step into maturity of the genre.

It’s frightening how seriously people are beginning to take comic book characters. Why not just do this story but attach it to a new character?

Good trailer does not equal good film. A much more accurate prediction is looking at the director and writer of the film. Which is Todd Phillips. Whose resume so far has not exactly been very convincing.

A fantastic trailer. But so was the Man of Steel trailer…

True. However, the most intriguing thing is Joaquin Phoenix being involved. I assume there’s something of interest to get him on board.

Any worries that this will be too much like “Taxi Driver” or “King of Comedy”? De Niro is even in the film…
