There have been a couple of competing John DeLorean biopics in the works over the past few years, the first of which (Nick Hamm’s Driven) starred Lee Pace in the lead role and screened at some festivals last year. Now here is Framing John DeLorean, a mix of documentary and fictionalized re-enactments not unlike American Animals with Alec Baldwin playing John DeLorean and Morena Baccarin playing his wife, supermodel Cristina Ferrare. Although DeLorean is best known for creating the sports car that would be immortalized in Back to the Future, his life had its share of ups and downs. After struggling to get his own car company off the ground, he was arrested in the early ’80s for drug trafficking. The movie is directed by Don Argott and Sheena M. Joyce, who worked together on the 2009 documentary The Art of the Steal (not to be confused with the Kurt Russell heist movie). Framing John DeLorean premieres at the Tribeca Film Festival before hitting select theatres and VOD on June 7th; check out the trailer after the jump and see what you think.
