When it was originally announced that Jason Reitman would be directing a new Ghostbusters sequel, soon afterward THR reported that the movie would mostly focus on a new generation of teenage Ghostbusters (two boys and two girls). At the time, it seemed likely that the popularity of things like Stranger Things and It had helped pave this new direction and now this week it seems we have some indirect confirmation of that fact. After donning a Ghostbusters costume for the second season of Stranger Things, Finn Wolfhard is reportedly in talks to become one of the first new cast members for Ghostbusters 3. Hit the jump for more details.
According to Variety, Finn Wolfhard and Carrie Coon are in talks to star in Jason Reitman’s untitled Ghostbusters sequel. Wolfhard is best known as Mike Wheeler on Stranger Things while Coon starred in The Leftovers and the third season of Fargo. The new movie will supposedly revolve around a single mom and her family with Coon playing the mom and Wolfhard playing her son.
Behind the scenes, Reitman was said to be somewhat reluctant to cast someone from Stranger Things but he and the Sony execs were “blown away” by his audition. The new Ghostbusters movie was co-written by Gil Kenan (Monster House) and is scheduled to hit theatres next summer. Stranger Things: Season 3 arrives on Netflix this July. What do you think about these potential casting choices?
