Yesterday Trailer: Danny Boyle’s Beatles-Themed Musical Comedy

We’ve been hearing about Danny Boyle’s upcoming musical Yesterday for a while now, but this week Universal has finally released the first official trailer. The movie has a pretty unique high concept that imagines a world where no one has heard of The Beatles except of the main character, who becomes a famous musician by recreating their songs. The script was written by Richard Curtis (Love Actually) and it looks like another crowdpleaser in the tradition of many of his previous rom-coms. Himesh Patel (EastEnders) stars in the lead role with a supporting cast that includes Lily James, Kate McKinnon, Ed Sheeran, Ana de Armas and James Corden. Yesterday hits theatres on June 28th; check out the first trailer after the jump and let us know what you think.

Here’s hoping this utilizes these songs better than Across the Universe did.

Why do they keep remaking Keira Knightly? First the girl from Star Wars, and now the girl in this piece of trash.

Do you think ‘remaking’ is the same as ‘casting’?.

Sounds like a terrible idea. The Invention of Lying meets Once.

  • Oso Jugo

No. It’s joke made up of two parts. First part, all three actresses look virtually identical; combined with second part, Hollywood’s love of remaking things.

The premise sounded terrible but reading that Danny Boyle was the director got me to watch the trailer and whaddaya know…now I really want to see it. This will confirm, once and for all, that the Beatles are far superior and more iconic than the Rolling Stones in virtually every way.

    So you mean re-imagining.
