Why the two 5’s Jay? Why?

I’ll join the chorus of junkers who say, do whatever you want. Roll up my sleeve and I have Filmjunk track marks on my arm; a Junk Junkee if you will – I’m hooked. Don’t even watch a move, spend 2 hours talking about how to pronounce a word or a name? I am so there. Watch a shit movie at 1.5 speed but spend 20 minutes talking about a veto system? Brilliant! (and what a deft move giving the film 1.5 stars). At this point, I’d listen to you lads reading your grocery lists over skype to each other (as I write that I’m now suddenly intrigued as to what each of you buy…). Just look after yourselves; keep having fun; put your personal lives first; Jay, move in with your girlfriend already and we’ll keep shooing up whatever you supply.

Suggestion: If you veto a film you then have to watch a film starring Danny Di Veto (or worse…something he directed). Or a lesser punishment…just 6 degrees of separation the film you watched instead back to Danny Devito somehow.

Migrate the show to YouTube and film yourself in front of the wall of blurays that Sean still haven’t watched half of it (!!!). (I know this sentence is not grammatically correct).

Then proceed to watch through your collections gradually and talk about those movies on the show.

If you want to still be part of the conversations, review big releases once in a while. If Jay is not interested in watching the latest Marvel movie, bring Dax over and have a chat with him instead.

If the show is on YouTube, all these unboxings of gifts will be more involving, and clips watched on the internet can be shared instead of just listening to sound and hearing everybody laugh about… something.

You can make some money off of ads, if your fan base migrates with you you will have tons of subscribers in no time.

I understand this is a very problematic suggestion, because a) I’m not sure FJ hosts like to be on screen, 2) it may require more work, i.e lighting and such, and 3) it’s less intimate than a podcast, and harder to listen to while doing dishes or commuting to work on the train.

But as someone who spends about 80 percent of his free time watching blu-ray collections videos on YouTube, and hearing the difficulties in finding a new structure for the show, I couldn’t help but think it might be an interesting option. I know the live streams were pretty popular back in the day.

When I saw ‘The Veto System’ I assumed you were proposing a United Nations-style veto, where one of you could block the collectively agreed decision to review a movie so that it doesn’t get on the show at all..

It’s on the Ringer network right? Yeah I’ve listened to a few episodes and enjoyed it. Have a few episodes downloaded on my queue to check out more.

You’re probably familiar with it but Projection Booth is a must. It’s incredibly in depth dive into a random older movie. There’s a recent Big Trouble in Little China episode. Usually, it’s three people discussing the movie in general plus a lot of background stuff and then an interview or two with someone involved in the movie somehow. For Big Trouble, they had an interview with W.D Richter (Buckaroo Banzai) who wrote the script. Huge back catalog of tons of great movies. Loads of cult type stuff too, so not always just the more popular stuff.

combining the veto system and “prescribing XYZ” (which i always liked, but was somehow lost along the way) would be great.

well, i would think one would prescribe something that one thinks the other person would like/should see (as it was the case with “prescribing frank”). in that sense it wouldn’t be punishment, but it doesn’t have to be, does it?

I don’t think it’s accurate at all to say Jay doesn’t want to review any movies in theaters. They went through a whole list of theatrical movies at the beginning of the show and Jay was on board with pretty much all of them except the Marvel movies.

And FWIW, I like the veto system, but I don’t think there should be any sort of “punishment” for using a veto. Also, three times a year seems good.

Although really, why don’t you guys just look at the week’s releases and then decide TOGETHER off air what you’re going to review. I feel like you can work all of this stuff out beforehand… that said, the veto would be fun to listen to in show.

Some of their episodes are better than others depending on their interviews they get and who the co-hosts are. On the Big Trouble episode, one of the cohosts is Vincenzo Natali (Cube) which is interesting.

On the recent Fat City episode, they got Stacy Keach for an interview, and they got Elliott Gould for the recent The Long Goodbye episode, so those were nice.

And pretty randomly, back in September, Jim Laczkowski was the co-host for the Czech movie Who Wants To Kill Jessie, which I totally expect to hear Jim when I hit play.

Also, I never went back and listened to it, but I believe theres a 6-hour long episode on Star Wars as well somewhere in their catalog since you’re the Star Wars guy.

Are there any other good podcasts you can throw out off the top of your head?
