New to Theatres This Weekend: A Dog’s Way Home, The Upside, Replicas

Three major releases hit theatres this weekend, all of which feel right at home in the dumping grounds of January. Leading the pack is the family film A Dog’s Way Home, which despite its ridiculous trailer will probably do some decent business. Neil Burger’s The Upside, a remake of the French buddy comedy The Intouchables, is also out this weekend. Despite the fact that it is a failed awards season contender, the presence of Kevin Hart might help it find an audience. Then there is the Keanu Reeves sci-fi film Replicas which is, not surprisingly, getting destroyed by critics. Fortunately, both If Beale Street Could Talk and On the Basis of Sex are expanding to over 1000 screens so at least there are some alternatives. In limited release, we also have Perfect Strangers, a comedy directed by Spanish genre filmmaker Álex de la Iglesia. What will you be watching this weekend?
