The first weekend of 2019 is shaping up to be a pretty quiet one (at least in terms of new releases) with just one new movie in wide release. The horror-thriller Escape Room is taking on what has now become a traditional role as the poorly reviewed genre flick that kicks off the new moviegoing year. Other than that, there really isn’t all that much in limited release either although there is a re-release of Jacques Rivette’s 1966 French drama The Nun (not to be confused with the horror movie that came out last year). It’s a good chance to catch up on some awards contenders, however, with If Beale Street Could Talk and On the Basis of Sex both expanding to over a hundred theatres a piece. What will you be watching this weekend?
